On July 26 at 7pm, On the Job author Daniel P. Smith will bring his dynamic and spirited presentation -- "The Path to On the Job: Murder, Reflection, and Where TV Cop Shows Fail" -- to the Palos Heights Library in Chicago's southwest suburbs. The event is free and open to the public.

Vote for the Chicago Writers Association on Facebook's Chase Community Giving Campaign

Please help the Chicago Writers Association win $20,000 in the Chase Community Giving Campaign! Any funds will help fund the CWA's current projects, including the ambitious Chicago Literary Hall of Fame and the organization's mentoring program for teen writers. Funds will also help the CWA develop new programs to further educate and promote our literary treasures. The CWA is a federally registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Voting ends in the Chase Community Giving campaign on Facebook on July 13. As it is now, the Chicago Writers Association (CWA) has 44 votes and ranks 799 out of more than 30,000 charities. To win cash, the CWA needs to get into the top 200. If you've got more than one person in your household with a FB account, we need every one of those votes. Even kids. You don't have to be 18 to vote in this election. All you need is a FB account.

1. Log into your Facebook account and go to Chase Community Giving on Facebook. http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/

2. On the Chase Community Giving home page where it says "VOTING OPEN NOW! Here's how to get started..."Click on the Like button


3. Click on the Search & Vote button.Type in Chicago Writers Association in the search engine.

4. Click on the Chicago Writers Association link and you'll be taken the the CWA's voting page.If the Vote for this charity link is operable, click on it.If the link is not operable, click on the Get Started to Vote Button above the link.

5. That's all there is to it. You should see your picture among those who have voted for CWA.

Artist Lindsay Olson's exhibit debuts; "On the Job" author to speak at celebratory unveiling

Author Daniel P. Smith will join Oak Park Police Chief Rick Tanksley as an invited speaker at the opening of artist's Lindsay Olson's "Tools of the Trade: A Citizen's View of Law Enforcement" exhibit. The reception will take place on Thursday, June 10 at the Oak Park Library (834 Lake Street). Lindsay has served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Oak Park Police Department where she has been learning about law enforcement and working on a body of art work in support of the department and its members.

"I'm thoroughly honored to be a part of Lindsay's event and thrilled that her work, so sincere and noble in nature and eager to explore the world of law enforcement much like On the Job, will be enjoyed by the many visitors to the Oak Park Library," Smith said.

On May 19, the Suburban Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals held their annual Training Day at the Westmont Police Department. Representatives from approximately 30 suburban Chicago police departments were present. Author Daniel P. Smith was invited to speak at the event as its closing presenter, an invitation he enthusiastically accepted. Following the event, Lisa M. DePatie of the Plainfield Police Department and chair of the Training Day committee penned the above note to Smith.

Daniel P. Smith, author of On the Job: Behind the Stars of the Chicago Police Department, appeared on WGN Radio's "The Sunday Papers" with Rick Kogan on May 23 to discuss the second printing of On the Job as well as the Chicago-based writer's newest adventure -- The Things Unsaid Project. Catholic New World notes "On the Job's" second printing

Dolores Madlener, matriarch of the Catholic New World, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Chicago, noted the second printing of On the Job in her regular "Church Clips" column. In the April 25 feature, Madlener wrote, "In his fast-moving 200 pages, Smith has set down 19 stories from rookies, veteran officers and retirees (yearning to be back in the saddle). They’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly."

Author program slated for Cary Area Public Library on May 6

Smith will be presenting his author program, "The Path to On the Job: A murder, reflection, and where TV cop shows fail," at the Cary Area Public Library on Thursday, May 6. The FREE event is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. and open to the public, though the library does request advanced registration.





Smith's 90-minute author program includes the author's motivations to write On the Job, never-before-told stories from the job, and Q&A. Signed copies of On the Job will be available for $15 following the presentation.





Smith has presented his compelling author program at over 50 venues in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Colorado. On the Job goes to second printing

On the Job: Behind the Stars of the Chicago Police Department, the most complete book on the culture of one of the world's most legendary law enforcement units, recently went to a second printing, said the book's publisher, Chicago-based Lake Claremont Press. The second printing is slated to arrive on April 9.
